Some insight on the life of a Massive Monkee

Half an Hour on Concrete

After that battle it escalated. He didn't take it too lightly that I was telling my crew I smoked him so he confronted me about it. There was a lot of trash talking going on back and forth between us so we battled again outside. I also in all honesty thought I beat him outside too. I'm not saying he's wack or anything. He's good. I just edged him that day. The very next day with no surprise at all he brought the whole Zulu Kings with him to call us out. They actually cut us off to battle them, as we were about to leave. I'm not a bitch so there's no way I'm going to step down from a challenge. My crew Massive Monkees battled Zulu Kings for more than half an hour on the concrete. It was a very memorable battle. Both sides did dope. But you really have to see the footage. Me speaking about it wont give the battle any justice. All in all Freestyle Session weekend is something I'll remember till I'm 80... haha.

Gang Fight!

Dammit! I hate Freestyle session! Maybe we would have better luck next year! I really thought we were going to win this year and take it back to Seattle. That just means we need to prepare ourselves more than ever next time. Besides the fact that we lost, the best part of the trip was when we battled Zulu Kings. It was a really good battle and it was like a gang fight! That really was a band-aid that covered the cut we had from the jam. Yeah, I'm hella metaphorical dude.

Rawness

Freestyle Session is arguably the most prestigious event in the world. It has a huge stage battle yet in my opinion still has that rawness that makes a bboy event what it is. FSS was also the first major event that we entered as a full crew. When we entered FSS6 in 2003 it introduced the whole Massive Monkees Crew to the scene and at FSS8 we established ourselves as one of the top crews in the world takin' out some crazy all-star squads yet we still fell short at both events taking 2nd place twice.

My physical preparation consists of training my body, eating right and practicing. Mentally I am staying focused making sure to give myself time for meditation and staying disciplined by cutting out my vices. Also, I am making sure to give my family time and getting ahead on business so that I don't have anything weighing on my mind at the competition...

Faded. Win, Lose or Draw.

I can't wait for this battle. I've been waiting for this weekend for months. I know the first day of the comp is going to be easy. All we need to do is qualify and do what we do best. Day two wont be as easy. It will be four battles (to the finals) and it'll be a lot of waiting around as usual. I think there's gonna be a lot of hard crews out there; you have your Skill Methodz crew (one of my favorites), Killafornia, Zulu Kings (defending champs), Knuckle Headz, etc... Some pretty hard crews out there. I hope we make it at least to the finals. This weekend will be pretty much hard work and play afterwards. Win, lose, or draw I'm getting faded on Sunday even if I have to wake up early for work the next day after my early flight back to Seattle! Super!
